$75,000 Raised!

For the first time, MIA invited a Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation representative to attend our Ladies' Night.

Nancy Jordan, Special Events Coordinator and Matthew Warszawski enjoyed their evening and were very pleased to accept the $75,000 funds raised by the 2009 MIA Charity Golf Tournament in Support of Mesothelioma Research.

For more pictures and details, please see the Ladies' Night page.

Thank you to all our supporters!

Because of your support and the hard work of Golf Committee, this year's event was a success despite the economy this year!  A list of contributors has been sent to PMHF who will be preparing the tax receipts.

100% of all donations and sponsorships are given to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation for Mesothelioma Research at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Thank you to the 204 golfers who participated.  As anticipated, because of this turnout, the net proceeds from golf registrations exceeded last year's.  The net proceedsand registration fees less expenses—also went to Mesothelioma Research at PMH.

Thank you to all for another successful event!!

Well the 11th Annual MIA Charity Golf Tournament is in the books.  I would like to thank all of the participants, sponsors, donors and other contributors along with the Golf Committee for making the 2009 Golf Tournament such a great success.

This year we had 204 golfers and 209 for dinner.  The weather held out for the golfing and we only had a few sprinkles throughout the day – nobody got too wet.

After dinner the 2008 1st Place Foursome posed for a photo op with the Tournament Plate that had just been newly engraved with their names.  Congrats again to Doug Flear, Phil MacNiel, Ken Brennan, Jamie Andre from the Local 95 Team "E".

Then it was time to announce the 2009 1st Place Foursome.  Mary Baldassarre, Jim Baldassarre, Daniel Lombardo, and Jim Fuoco posed with the Tournament Plate that will soon bear their names and then they were presented with their Tournament Steins.  Congratulations to the Ultima Insulation Ltd. (Kleinburg) team.

The sad part of this Tournament is that this is the last year at Kleinburg Golf Club enjoying the great course thanks to Marty Weber and the great food thanks to Vince Boada.

We raised a lot of money again for Mesothelioma Research and Early Detection Program at Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.  The final total will be published at a later date.  For a complete list of those companies and individuals who supported our efforts is shown later on this page.

Thank you to the many companies who donated draw prizes.  Combined with the electronic products purchased by the Golf Committee, the Draw Prizes made for a lot of excitement and anticipation during the draw.

Next year we are going to to start a new relationship with Nobleton Lakes Golf Club.  Hope to see you there next year for good golf, good food, a good time and hopefully a good fundraising effort for Mesothelioma Research.

For those that participated, we can relive some of the moments by visiting the GOLF09 page in the photo gallery.  And for those that didn't attend, you can get an idea of of what you can look forward to next year.  Kleinburg Golf Club has certainly set a high standard for Nobleton Lakes Golf Club to match but I'm sure they are more than up to the challenge.

Manager

The Master Insulators' Association of Ontario Inc.

Thank you for your commitment to support the Mesothelioma Research Program under the leadership of Dr. Marc de Perrot at Princess Margaret Hospital, the University Health Network.

Your support is helping researchers make significant progress in the area of Mesothelioma diagnosis and treatment.

The early detection study for Mesothelioma and Lung cancer, under the direction of the principal investigator Dr. Demetris Patsios, is continuing to grow -- over 900 participants have been screened so far, 65% or approximately 585 from Local 95. Ages of participants range from 30 to 85 with the average age being 63 and the gender breakdown is 927 men and 20 women.

Five cases of malignant pleural mesothelioma, four cases of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma and eight cases of lung cancers have been discovered since the study was launched in March 2005.  One case of the malignant pleural mesothelioma was detected at an early stage and has been included in the new clinical trial treatment for early stage mesothelioma.

Scanning is scheduled every Wednesday. Appointments and arrangements can be made through Brenda O’Sullivan at 416‑340‑5686.

The vision at The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation is to:

Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime

We thank you for your support in helping us continue to work toward that vision.  Your efforts have already made a difference and will continue to impact the lives of Mesothelioma patients.

For more information on Mesothelioma, visit the Princess Margaret Hospital (University Health Network) website.
